I arrived in the Truman Building in Shorditch, Bukola and Leon Nicholson were already there waiting for me. Leon is a very striking model with strong sharp features especially his distinctive hazel/green eyes, accompanied with a very warm personality, I took a liking to him instantly. A model with a clear vision and focus for his career, already making an impact on the industry. I was looking forward to finding out more. Here is an insight into our interview.

How did you get into modelling and what inspired you to get into it?

It was a few years ago the majority of my influence was from my friends and through my sisters encouragement. Especially because my sister did modelling for a good couple of years and she absolutely loved it and she told me to get involved with it. I've been modelling for one to one and a half years now. I started when I was about 23 years old.

How was the February challenge?

I didn't have any expectations for this but I did have a lot of fun. I just brought myself along to the casting and I felt I was thrown in the deep end so that was a real challenge. It is definitely something I would do again. I was modelling for Organik Rocka and Mindless Mammals clothing lines. Unfortunately I didn't get to keep any of the cloths, I would have loved to keep something, I liked the designs.

What steps do you plan to take to achieve your success within the fashion/modelling industry?

I would love to independently identify myself as my own brand as a model so I can increase my profile and get recognition for being me. Generally I go castings and network at promos and other events through networking that is the key to this industry. Being sociable and a good communicator, that is the way to the top.

I heard that you have recently been involved with a new campaign for Peugeot. How did you get involved with the new Peugeot 308 campaign?

It was through body building friend of mine. I've been body building for about seven or eight years. This campaign sounded like fun that's why it appealed to me and I would do it again. It was a bit weird at the beginning I have to admit especially because I had to wear Lycra and pretending to be naked, but it was all good and a great experience.

What actions and steps would you take to develop this into a modelling career for the future?

Definitely need to stick to my networking, as this is the best way to meet and get in touch with the right kind of people. You have to connect with the industry people especially if you want to work with them. I have to produce business cards and work on my branding, and continue to build my portfolio and contacts, actually I'm still working on that at the moment.

What advice or tips would you give to someone who wants to get involved in the modelling industry?

It's not necessarily so much what you know but who you know and it's definitely the case of you trying it for yourself.

It was great interviewing Leon and I can see without a doubt he will go far especially with an aura like that, he gives off the right vibe. I just like to say the best of luck to Leon, the future is bright and I hope you don't forget us when you get to the top.
